THE day after her brother went missing, she was relieved when she heard he was at the police station.
But little did she know her search wasn’t over.
When she arrived at the police station, she was told her brother, Molatlhegi Disiba (79), was taken to the hospital.
But the hospital said he wasn’t there either.
Now, Johanna Lesiba (48) from Kagisanong View near Kgabalatsane, North West, doesn’t know where to look for her brother.
Molatlhegi went missing on 20 October.
“I watched TV and then went outside to look for him, but he wasn’t there. I waited until midnight and he was still not back,” she said.
Johanna said she became worried as her brother has a problem with his memory.
“I knew he was lost because he doesn’t really know this place.”
She said she reported him missing at the police station.
“A man told us he saw him the day he went missing. He said he called the cops when he saw he was not okay,” she said.
“I went back to the police station to tell them what the resident said. They called the Ga-Rankuwa police and they said he was there.”
But her brother wasn’t there.
“They told me he was taken to the hospital, but when I got there they said they knew nothing about him.”
Johanna said she returned to the police station a week later and got a shock of her life.
“The police said they remembered him, but don’t know what happened to him,” she said.
“I blame the police for his disappearance. They took him to the police station, but failed to keep him safe until his family was traced and found,” she said.
North West police spokeswoman Colonel Adele Myburgh said a missing person’s case was opened.
“The Ga-Rankuwa police said they took a missing man to the Mothutlung Police Station, but it wasn’t the same man,” she said.
