back to business for the brewers of home-made booze.
While boozers across the country were saddened by the president Cyril Ramaphosa immediate ban of alcohol, it was great news to those who specialise in home-made booze.
Kasi women who make mfula mfula said the president’s move meant more customers and more money for them.
A 59-year-old single mother of four from KwaMashu north of Durban, said she hopes to regain all those customers she lost when the ban of alcohol was lifted.
Her customers had dumped her when the ban on booze was lifted at the beginning of June.
"My business fell apart. I couldn't make money like during the lockdown and I decided to stop," she said.
She started brewing and selling mfula mfula in April just after the lockdown was announced.
"One 1.5 litre of bottle costs R20. Most of my customers are young people I make lots of money," she said.
She said although she knows that she is breaking the law, the money she makes helps her buy a lot of things at her house.
"I was also able to save money for my daughter who is in matric," she said.
She said she has already received phone calls from people who were asking her to make the mfula mfula because they want it for the weekend.
"Today I'm going to buy my ingredients and start making the mfula mfula," she said.
