THE SAPS spends most of its time dealing with criminals, but it is also not spared.
A service provider was convicted by the Protea Magistrates Court on Thursday, 4 November, for inflating prices on quotations for vehicle repair parts, amounting to R94 255.
Hawks spokeswoman Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu said between 2017 and 2018, Katlehong-based mechanic Bonginkosi Lucas Nkosi (42) fraudulently created fictitious invoices with the Ford dealership letterheads for repair quotations.
“The matter was reported to the Hawks’ serious corruption investigation team in Vaal for further investigation. This revealed that Nkosi inflated prices on invoices for the police mechanical depot in Diepkloof, Soweto, for state vehicles repair parts,” Mulamu said in a statement.
She added that Nkosi overpriced a collective amount of R94 255 for repair parts.
“The money was deposited into his bank account for the stated period. In September 2019, police served Nkosi with the summons to appear in court, and he was released on a warning,” Mulamu added.
Nkosi pleaded guilty on all counts of fraud, and the case was postponed to 11 November for sentencing.
