LEARNING and teaching at rural Tshifulanani Primary School were disrupted after a security guard made a gruesome discovery on Tuesday, 21 September.
Pupils were forced to go back home after the body of a young man was discovered, hanging next to a classroom.
Gladys Sithubi, the principal of the school in Lwamondo-Mathule Village outside Thohoyandou, said when the security guard took the dustbin out at about 5.30am, he was shocked to find a young man hanging from a rope.
The circumstances were still sketchy as Sithubi said the gate was closed, and the surroundings had steel poles, which meant it would be difficult for someone to enter the premises, unless they jumped over.
“I was called and when I arrived, I found the man hanging from a rope near the door of one of the classrooms, and we informed the police. After consulting with teachers and members of the school governing body, we decided that pupils must go back home because they would be traumatised over the incident. This was the first of its kind in the school.”
Sithubi said they also decided to fumigate some classrooms near where the body was found.
SGB chairman Muofhe Lufhungu said they were shocked, and hoping for social workers to come and counsel the pupils and for pastors to pray for them before resuming the lessons.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said Vuwani police officers were investigating an inquest docket after a man’s body was found hanging near the door of one of the classrooms.
He said police were on a daily routine when they were informed about the incident of the body of the man, who was identified as Rolindwa Nelwamondo (21) from Lwamondo-Tshikosi Village.
