A GQEBERHA man, Neaven Demingo (23) has been found guilty of three counts of murder and attempted murder.
Demingo was further found guilty of two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and two counts of unlawful possession of ammunition.
During April 2019, according to National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Anelisa Ngcakani, Demingo and an unknown suspect that is still at large, approached Moegamet Abrahams and another unknown male while they were standing in the street.
They drew firearms and started shooting at them. Standing nearby watching this were Austin Tembula and Fernando Ashia.
Ngcakani said as Abrahams fled, Demingo and his unknown accomplice turned to Tembula and Ashia and fired shots at them.
“They fell and died at the scene. The two continued firing shots at them. Demingo and his accomplice then fled,” said Ngcakani.
A month later, Demingo continued with his spree. Ngcakani said on 18 May, Jacques Roberts was walking at Velozia Street in Bethelsdorp when Demingo and two other suspects who are still at large approached him.
Demingo and one of the two men then drew their firearms and shot at Roberts.
Roberts fled and Demingo and his accomplice continued to shoot at him. He later died in hospital as a result of the gunshot wounds.
“All these murders were gang-related,” said Ngcakani.
Demingo was ultimately arrested two days later after the second incident after police had arrested him for an unrelated matter.
Demingo will be sentenced on 31 March.
