RESIDENTS have urged their councillor to clear a pathway which they say will soon attract thugs.
That’s not the only problem residents of KwaMashu, north of Durban, have with the passage which cuts through N and J sections.
It’s filthy and littered with rubbish, and the grass is overgrown.
Residents dumped rubbish on the pathway when it wasn’t collected last month, causing a horrible smell.
The concerned residents apparently reported the matter to Councillor Simon Khuboni last month when the dumping started.
Minenhle Mthembu (38), whose house is situated next to the pathway, said: “There are dirty nappies, bags full of rotten food and flies everywhere.”
Another resident Philani Ntshiza (44) said: “I walk along the pathway early in the morning when I leave for work and late at night when I return.
“I prefer the grass to be cut so I can see ahead when walking.
“But with this tall grass I can’t. It would be easy for thugs to hide so as to pounce and rob me.”
He asked Khuboni to cut the grass way before people started dumping rubbish.
But the councillor hadn’t lifted a finger, he said.
“We want it cleared, and there should be a ‘no dumping’ sign as well,” he said.
Khuboni said: “People have reported the matter to me.
“I’ll make arrangements for the pathway to be cleared.”
