Simphiwe Nxumalo was killed allegedly by her ex-boyfriend, at Kwa Mai Mai last Saturday.

A MAN accused of strangling his ex-girlfriend is behind bars, but her family fears he will get away with his alleged crime.

“His family is well connected and very familiar with the law because his father is a cop.”

The 32-year-old was bust on Friday after cops received a tip-off from a member of the public.

HER BODY WAS FOUND KWA MAI MAI!

On Thursday, Daily Sun published an article about how Simphiwe Nxumalo (24) was found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s room at Kwa Mai Mai Hostel in Jeppestown, Joburg, last Saturday. Simphiwe, who lived at the hostel with her cousins, had a big scratch on her face and her fingers were injured. The post mortem showed she was strangled. It was understood she broke up with her ex over a month ago.

Her cousin, Zandile Nkosi (32), said Simphiwe was scared the suspect would kill her. She said he became obsessed with her after she left him.

Her other cousin, Vumile Nkosi (24), told Daily Sun: “We feel it took the police a long time to arrest him. That gave him enough time to plan how he would escape jail time.

“His family is well connected and very familiar with the law because his father is a cop.”

Vumile said her family wanted the suspect to rot in jail.

“We’re praying he’s never granted bail and that the judge hands down a life sentence. Our cousin is never coming back. Simphiwe wanted to achieve more in life. She had big dreams and wanted us to get a better place to live,” she said.

Captain Richard Munyai said the suspect was charged with murder and was expected to appear in the Joburg Magistrates Court today.
