FRIDAY 4 December is judgment day for murder accused Dumisani Mkhwanazi.
Mkhwanazi, accused of killing UJ student Palesa Madiba and burying her in a shallow grave in 2013, will know his fate in the South Gauteng High Court.
The remains of Madiba were found at the back of the backrooms of Mkhwanazi’s home in December 2015.
Madiba was last seen at the accused’s home where she spent a weekend visiting her childhood friend Tshidi Mkhwanazi, who is the accused’s niece.
Judge Prince Manyathi had previously emphasised that the matter needed to be wrapped up swiftly as the family of the deceased needed closure. This after delays caused by the accused and his lawyer Dominic Thinane.
Mkhwanazi, who is facing charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, obstruction of justice, possession of illegal firearm and ammunition, has since pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
He denied any involvement in the killing and burying of Madiba’s body.
He said the gun that was found in his possession didn’t belong to him. However, the police officers who arrested him told the court that he told them he bought the gun from someone from Kimberly.
