AN Avanza driver was arrested for allegedly raping a passenger in Nyanga, Cape Town, on Monday.

Resident Lulamile Mntuyedwa (41) said he was on his way to the filling station when he saw the driver being nabbed.

“He was arrested in front of the police station. At first I thought he fought with one of the street vendors until I heard he was being arrested for rape,” said Lulamile.

He told Daily Sun some people became jikeleza drivers so they could do evil things.

Another resident, Sinazo Gumede (39), said she didn’t trust jikeleza drivers. “It’S Not easy to differentiate the ones who are bad from those who are good,” she said.

Police spokesman Captain FC Van Wyk said a 34-year-old taxi driver was arrested shortly after a woman opened a case of rape against him at Nyanga cop shop.

“He is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court soon, facing charges of abduction, rape and robbery,” said Van Wyk.
