WHEN he heard his neighbour screaming, Thomas Maraka wasn’t prepared for the evil he was about to see.

The 27-year-old from Jakkalsdans in Winterveld, Tshwane, found a black rabbit tied with a white and red cloth, beads, two knives and a bowl with pap on Monday.

On the cloth it was written: “Tomi Muraki, whether or not, I am with you, nevertheless.”

Thomas said his neighbours and madala said they must burn the rabbit sent by evildoers.

“I’ve never seen such a scary thing. I don’t know who’d send such a thing. I don’t have enemies.”

Neighbours were woken up by lightning before the rabbit was found.

David Mneya said his roof was hit by lightning at midnight.

Maria Marula (39) said: “I prayed. The lightning sounded as if it was meant for someone.”

When the SunTeam arrived, neighbours had just burnt the rabbit.

David Mneya says lightning struck his roof before the black rabbit was found.

Sangoma Humphrey Nkomo said: “The family must consult a powerful sangoma to remove the bad spell.”

Another sangoma, Majoko Hlongwane, said: “When people use a rabbit they want to put a spell on someone so they follow all their instructions without knowing.”
