JAN Mabuyakhulu is known for fighting women and child abuse.

He gained fame when he embarked on his annual 224km walk between Mtubatuba and Durban.

But it seems he won’t this year as he’s in hospital.

His family appealed to SunReaders to help them raise funds for a specialist.

His sister Alice (55) said Jan developed a growth in his throat in July. They thought it would disappear.

“When it didn’t he went to the clinic but couldn’t get help.

“The growth kept on getting bigger.

“We took him to my sister in Durban, who took him to King Edward VIII Hospital, where they slightly opened his throat and cut out the growth.

“They suspected he had throat cancer.”

Alice said his condition improved and he was sent home.

But it became worse.

“Things were not good for him last week as he couldn’t even eat or drink anything,” she said.

“He got weaker. I decided to take him to hospital.

“He can’t speak and his condition has become worse.”

Alice appealed for help to consult a specialist.

Alice told Daily Sun they’d appreciate financial assistance as no one in the family worked.
