HE cried and begged not to get killed when armed men barged into their yard in Braamfischerville, Soweto.

And the thugs let him go. But they shot other tenants and gang-raped a woman.

Madala Johannes Morgan (63) told Daily Sun he heard the men when they entered the first room.

“They did their thing quietly. I could not hear what they were saying even when they spoke to the lady who stays in that room,” said Johannes.

He said he heard a gunshot and was scared to death.

“I heard another bang. They were kicking the door of the second room. They then got into my room.

“I was in bed and could tell they were not there to play.

“They wanted what they wanted. I begged them not to kill me.”

Johannes said the men asked for money and he gave it to them.

“I continued begging them until I cried. They spoke among themselves and said I’m a madala and they should leave me.”

The madala, who has been a tenant in the yard for two years, told the People’s Paper the men fired a shot in the air as they left his room.

After leaving the madala’s room, the men went to another, where they shot a man.

His wife (43) said she was at work when the incident happened.

She rushed to Leratong Hospital, where she found him recovering.

“He could talk.

“He asked me about the kids and asked me to bring him toiletries.

“When I came back the following day, he was in ICU and the doctors told me he had internal bleeding. I was later told he passed away,” she said.

The woman said she finds it hard to believe her husband is really gone.

“I wish his killers are caught and locked up for good.

“I need help from SunReaders to give my husband a dignified funeral in Venda at the weekend,” she said.

The tenants said they now live in fear.

“We are afraid of even closing our eyes. We don’t know if our attackers plan to come back,” said Nkosiphile Mthembu (24), who was stabbed in the head.

He said they also took money from him.

“They were also looking for appliances.”

The tenants asked for counselling.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo confirmed the incident.

He said cases of house robbery, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and attempted murder were being investigated.

He said a murder case will be added since one victims lost his life in hospital.

“No arrests have been made.

“We are pleading with anyone who might have information that may lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to contact the nearest police.”
