THE family of Ekurhuleni West College student, Mbali Hlongwane are still in desperate need of answers following her brutal death in October.
With her alleged killer on the run, the family hopes he hands himself over and gives them the answers they need.
Mbali’s dad, Vusi Maduna, (45) told Daily Sun: “Our prayer is for this guy to be found and we hope and pray he doesn’t do anything stupid like try to commit suicide or kill someone else.
“Going to prison won’t bring back Mbali, but I need to understand why he did that.”
He said Mbali’s killing was no mistake as she was stabbed several times.
The motive of the killing is still unclear, but it allegedly emanated from a students’ WhatsApp group.
On 29 October, Mbali’s cousin, Lindokuhle Hlongwane, told Daily Sun what she saw on the day Mbali died.
She said her peers told her the suspect waited outside the exam room for Mbali to finish writing.
“When she walked out, the guy followed her and stabbed her. She allegedly tried to run, but he was fast. He stabbed her three times and disappeared,” she said.
Lindokuhle said from what she heard, the bitterness started when some students qualified for their exams, while others didn’t.
“When they celebrated in the class WhatsApp group, the suspect passed silly remarks.
“Mbali responded by saying they worked hard to qualify and deserved to be happy. The suspect apparently did not take that well and took his anger out on my cousin,” said Lindokuhle.
Mbali was a first-year IT student at Ekurhuleni West College in Katlehong.
According to her parents, she enjoyed the course.
“She took a photo every time she got her test results and sent it immediately. If I remember correctly, there was nothing less than 75%,” said Vusi.
“The police are telling us they can’t find this guy,” he said.
Police spokesman Kay Makhubele said the police are still looking for the suspect and investigating a case of murder.
He appealed to anyone with information to come forward.
