It’s inhumane and barbaric for people to be killed because they’re gay or lesbian.
I’m shocked by the spate of murders against the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community.
What have we become? An intolerant nation?
Community members are abused, called names and brutally killed by cruel people.
Hatred against gays and lesbians is getting out of hand. We can’t change people’s sexual preferences.
Our brothers and sisters can’t walk with their partners on the street and hold their hands.
For many and their families in South Africa, safety, justice and the promise of a truly rainbow nation still feels a long way off. South Africa should step up protection for gays and lesbians.
Government must have a dedicated programme aimed at countering discrimination and violence against them.
We need to ensure that perpetrators of violence against these folk are prosecuted.
More needs to be done to stop hate crimes. Government isn’t doing enough. It has been talking about the issue but with not much action.

- Slight, we’re all disgusted by this behaviour, which is so rooted in toxic masculinity and shocking patriarchal culture of our country and others. As communities, we must expose these monsters who presume to have the right to decide how others must love, live or die. This letters wins R200 today.
