RIVONI School for the Blind is finally getting a new building.

Limpopo Premier Stan Mathabatha announced this yesterday during a visit to the school in Njhakanjhaka Village, which has been producing top pupils.

Pupils are being taught in run-down mobile containers, but the premier said by April, the contractors would start building.

“We acknowledge the school needs to be upgraded and infrastructure is not good at all. We’ve noticed they’re producing better and top pupils every year.

“When I look at all the distinctions from this school, I realise God is with us and He is good all the time. We must fast-track this to assist the school to continue producing top pupils,” he said.

Tiyani Mbendzane was one of the top pupils last year. The premier donated a Braille computer to him for achieving top marks.

Principal Constance Mabaso said many MECs have visited them but they wanted the premier to see their conditions.

“Despite the challenges, I’m happy I have a dedicated team of teachers who are not doing this for money, but passion. They love these kids and produce a 100% pass rate with distinctions. We hope there will be changes.”
