TWO 'fake' soldiers who are accused of raping and murdering a 74-year-old gogo Ngenzeni Zuma from Sweetwaters in Pietermaritzburg in the KZN midlands will only know their fate in the middle of next month.

The two suspects were arrested on Thursday and they appeared briefly in Pietermaritzburg Magistrates Court today (Friday).

KZN police spokeswoman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele said: "The two accused, were remanded into custody until 14 May 2020 for bail application."

She said they are facing charges of murder, robbery and two counts of rape.

The two allegedly raped and killed gogo Ngenzeni in her home on Sunday.

They allegedly pretended to be soldiers who were tasked to sanitizing houses following the coronavirus outbreak.

Mbele said swift police investigation led to the arrest of two suspects after Ngenzeni was found dead.

“They were arrested and were charged for murder, robbery and rape. A 27-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in KwaShange in Pietermaritzburg and the second suspect a 24-year-old was traced in Point in the Durban later on Thursday," said Mbele.

She said a case of murder and rape was opened at Plessislaer police station.
