THE EFF lived up to it's promise earlier in the week that it would disrupt proceedings in parliament.
As soon as members of parliament settled down to listen to the State of the Nation Address by President Cyril Ramaphosa, EFF leader Julius Malema rose on a point of order.
“We have a murderer in the house…we have a person who has the blood of the people of Boipatong on his hands.
“For us to have peaceful proceedings we request you ask F.W De Klerk to leave the house,” said Malema.
He added that it’s an insult to have De Klerk in the National Assembly.
But Speaker Thandi Modise said the reason “we are here” is to give president space to address the nation.
“I rule that your submission is out of order,” said Modise.
Floyd Shivambu then rose on the same point of order but the speaker still rejected.
Modise defended De Klerk’s presence in the National Assembly, saying all former presidents are invited to the house.
EFF MP Mbuyiseni Ndloi took issue with Modise’s ruling and said he calling out De Klerk for his views that apartheid was not a crime against humanity.
As soon as the president started speaking, EFF MP Vuyani Pambo rose to say the Minister of Public Enterprises Pravin Gordhan” we won’t sit with Pravin Gordhan, Pravin must go”
Pambo said Modise should adjourn the house “to allow president to fire Pravin."
After that the majority of EFF members rose one by one on point of orders.
After continued disruptions, Modise suspended the proceedings of the house.
During the adjournment, Zizi Kodwa addressed the media and said Gordhan and De Klerk are going nowhere.
He also vowed that Sona will continue even if it takes place “in the early hours of the morning”.
