GOGOS and mkhulus are already in a celebratory mood!

They have just heard their grant payments will be made on 28 November and again on 31 December.

Gogos told Daily Sun this will give them time to make their purchases early.

“When Christmas is near everything gets expensive,” said gogo Khumalo (76) from Mzimhlophe, Soweto.

“I prefer buying groceries and my grandchildren’s clothes early so I can to save. But I was worried because I didn’t have any savings.”

She said when she heard about the early payments she started dancing.

“Immediately after getting my money I’ll buy all my things,” she said.

Madala Zikode (68) said he was supposed to pay his stokvel money sooner that usual.

“I was worried where I’d get the money to pay the stokvel from. I’m over the moon about the early payments. This means I won’t have to go to a mashonisa,” he said.

Sassa spokeswoman in Gauteng Nandi Mosia confirmed payments would be made earlier.

She said Sassa was pleased to inform social-grants beneficiaries their money for December 2019 would be available electronically on Thursday 28 November.

“The beneficiaries who receive their social grants in cash will continue to collect their grant on the due date as communicated to them in the last cash payment cycle,” she said.

“We confirm that electronic payments for January 2020 will start on 31 December.

“We wish all our beneficiaries a safe festive season and a prosperous new year,” she said.
