A STAND-OFF between an intruder and a courageous domestic worker foiled a house robbery in Storms River, Eastern Cape on Tuesday, 9 November.
According to Sergeant Majola Nkohli, it is alleged that a domestic worker was doing her chores at a house in Storms River when a young man asked her for water, and she gave it to him.
“After the young man left, the domestic worker continued with her chores, but moments later she found the same young man inside the bathroom. He presumably entered through a bathroom window. The intruder attempted to grab a laptop, and a scuffle ensued between the two. During the scuffle, the domestic worker managed to press a panic button to activate an armed response of a private security alarm,” said Nkohli.
The intruder was arrested outside the house by a security officer as he was attempting to flee.
Nkohli said the domestic worker and her 90-year-old employer were not injured during the incident.
“The 19-year-old suspect was arrested and is due to appear in the Storms River Magistrates Court soon on charges of attempted house robbery,” said Nkohli.
