FAMILY, friends and former colleagues of Lucky Maselesele, may have accepted that he’s no more, but they are struggling to come to terms with the manner that he lost his life.
On Saturday, they gathered at the God Never Fails Ministries in Lombardy East, near Alexandra, north of Joburg to bid farewell to the former Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United star.
And it was a send-off fit for a king.
Lucky’s daughter Lethabo Maselesele (9) said she was heartbroken about the way he left.
“I know there are evil people who do evil things,” she said.
“Daddy, I love you so much, I know you love me because you tell me all the time. I’m going to miss your hugs and kisses. I’m going to miss you spoiling me with treats.”
She said she would miss her dad watching her play cricket and soccer and cheering her on, saying “bathathe ponkie”.
Football legends Peter Khoabane, Bennett Chenene, Alfred Phiri, Finki Sekete and Cosmos Zwane also attended.
Cosmos said: “It is difficult to stand here and talk about Lucky. The kind of person he was and the way he died was so completely different.”
He described Lucky as a people’s person.
“I’m sure he never left his kids his football shirts because he gave them to the fans.
“The only thing his kids will have are his photos,” he said.
“He was a happy person, with his own funny dance moves. He was a human being before his profession.”
His friend Mxolisi Silango told mourners he would miss their journey to training sessions.
“We would pick Lucky up. It was a nice journey when I travelled with him and Shakes. They always had jokes. I will miss them,” he said.
Two people have been arrested in connection with Lucky’s murder and briefly appeared at Alexandra Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 October. They will appear again soon.
