ANC Youth League President, Collen Maine belongs in the old age home.
ANCLY member in the North West, Thabo Molamu told Daily Sun yesterday.
He said the controversial ANC youth wing leader was over the stipulated age limit when he was elected the president in 2015.
According to Molamu, Maine was over the age of 35 when he was elected president of the youth league.
“The man is apparently 38 years old now,” he said.
Molamu said the ANCYL constitution indicate that members should be between the ages of 14 and 35 years.
“When you are 35, you are no longer allowed to be a member.”
He is not a member of the youth league.
“But it not only him, we have just discovered the ANCYL is run by veterans.”
There are about 18 members in the ANCYL NEC who are above the age of 35.
“They must go home, to their right home which is the old age home.”
The disgruntled members said they have sent a letter to the ANCYL and they’ll be approaching the courts.
Attempts of getting Maine’s comments were unsuccessful as his phone rang answered.
However ANCYL spokesman, Mlondi Mkhize told the People’s Paper that when leaders are elected, they are below the age of 35 years old.
“When they turn 35 they are permitted to finish their term of office.
“As a matter of history, April (Fikile) Mbalula went to the Polokwane conference when he was above the age of 35. He ultimately delivered congress the following year in 2008 in Mangaung.”
He added, “It cannot be that we are subjected to a process where we are getting calls that Collen must resign because he’s over the age of 35.”
When asked how old Maine was when he was elected, he explicitly stated that the youth league president was 34-years-old.
On the allegation of 18 people over the age of 35 in the youth league, Mlondi said “If they say there 18 people, they must give us those names so that we are able to verify that.”
