Calm returns to Diepsloot!

accreditation

ANGRY residents went on a rampage last week.

The cries of Diepsloot residents didn’t fall on deaf ears.

Police Minister Bheki Cele and Home Affairs Minister Aaron Motsoaledi visited the kasi last week.

After the visit, more than 100 undocumented foreigners were bust during police raids.

The tactical response team and public order police have been patrolling the kasi in the north of Joburg.

Sithembile Ngwane (38) said all was back to normal.

“We’re happy that we were taken seriously before our kasi became another Cape Flats.”

Bongani Maseko (27) said the more government works with the people, the better.

Daily Sun reported recently that residents blamed undocumented foreigners for the high levels of crime in their kasi.

They said nine people had been killed, including a police captain, between November and this month.

During the protest last week, roads were blocked with burning objects, shops belonging to foreigners looted, and a school vandalised.

Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said the Firearms Liquor and Second Hand Goods Control unit will raid and shut down illegal shops.
