THE family of Neo Setena is seeking justice following her mysterious death.
The 18-year-old from Ga-Mashashane, outside Polokwane in Limpopo, was dropped off at Seshego Hospital, unconscious and only wearing a towel on Tuesday, 14 September, allegedly by a 24-year-old prophet.
Her uncle Jeffrey Setena (24) told Daily Sun the family was told she drank brake fluid at the prophet’s house.
He said five months before her death, the prophet allegedly made her drop out of grade 11 to stay with him at his house.
“He told Neo that her schoolbook was stolen by someone who wanted to perform witchcraft with it, so she would not progress in life. He convinced her to stay with him so he could protect her from evil spirits,” he said.
Jeffrey said the family tried to involve the police, but with no success.
“Neo was staying at his home along with my cousin Mpho (16) and other children. He was allegedly sleeping with my niece.”
Jeffrey said Neo allegedly had to pretend to be in love with the prophet so he would keep her safe.
“Neo was never suicidal. She was a smart girl, and we believe she was drugged or forced to drink the fluid because she was going to expose him. She was living in fear,” he alleged.
He said the prophet told the family that he suspected Neo drank the fluid at his home.
Dorah Setena (34) said she wanted justice for her daughter.
“I’m heartbroken, and I feel like the police have failed my daughter. We tried many times to rescue her, but nothing happened,” she said.
“Now my child is dead and not coming back. I have lost a treasure, and someone must be held accountable.”
The prophet said the allegations against him were not true.
“I took her to the hospital and helped open a file for her. I did not dump her at the hospital. I suspect she drank brake fluid at my home.
“The family knows I was in a relationship with her,” he said.
Limpopo police spokesman Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said an inquest case was opened.
