DNA results in the Andile “Bobo” Mbuthu case have been released to the family.
They came back 99,9% positive, said Bobo’s uncle Ntobeko Ngidi (49) outside Verulam Magistrates Court in Durban, KZN, yesterday.
Ntobeko told Daily Sun police visited their Hambanathi home in Tongaat on Monday night to give them the results.
“We now know for a fact the human remains found in the river are those of Bobo.”
He said they were relieved when they received the news, as they could now start making funeral arrangements and focus on the case afterwards.
“We’re still going to meet as the family and discuss funeral arrangements. But we think it will be during the course of this week.”
Ntobeko was in court for the appearance of the suspects linked to Bobo’s case.
The seventh suspect, a 16-year-old minor, briefly appeared alone.
He abandoned his bail application and the matter was postponed to 18 June.
Magistrate Rajesh Parshotam said the suspect was held in custody and would go back to a place of safety.
Meanwhile, the six other suspects facing a kidnapping charge were not brought to court to apply for bail. Their lawyer Chris Gounded said he made an application and everything was arranged for them to be brought to court, so he didn’t know why they didn’t come.
Prosecutor Kirsen Shah said it wasn’t the court’s responsibility to bring suspects to court. “There’s nothing in writing that Gounden brought to court to prove he made the application.”
Parshotam said Gounded should make proper arrangements for the six suspects to be brought to court.
He said they needed to be physically brought to court for the bail application to take place and moved the matter to Tuesday.
