THANKS to SunPower, a huge hole in front of KwaMashu Shopping Centre has been filled.
This comes after street hawkers from the area, north of Durban, complained to Daily Sun that the hole affected their business.
They said the hole had been in the street for many months and they contacted theThekwini Municipality to fix it as it was dangerous, but got no help.
However, after the People’s Paper contacted the municipality and wrote an article about the hole last week, it was fixed on Friday.
A street hawker Nomfundo Mkhize (35) said they were grateful that SunTeam intervened.
“If the newspaper did not publish this story, the hole would still be there. We can now focus on our business without being worried about the hole,” she said.
Nonhlanhla Gumede (55), another street hawker, said next time they had issues, they would contact the newspaper instead of the municipality as government officials did not listen to them.
“Now our customers will be able to enjoy their meat and those who park their cars here to eat will not have to worry about the hole,” she said.
Customer Mandla Dlamini (39) said he was very pleased.
“Several people fell and got injured there. Now we will be able to enjoy ourselves without being worried,” he said.
Municipal spokesman Msawakhe Mayisela confirmed that repairs were done at the shopping centre.
