President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga as acting president.
The presidency announced in a statement on Friday, 2 July that Ramaphosa had appointed Motshekga as acting president.
“The appointment has been made in view of the president’s visit today to Lusaka, Zambia, to attend the state funeral service for the late President Kenneth Kaunda,” read the statement.
This comes as deputy president David Mabuza is receiving medical treatment in Russia.
In 2019, the Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma, was also appointed as acting president as Ramaphosa and Mabuza had departed on working trips.
