Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane's legal woes continue to pile up.
Accountability Now a civil society group that "strives to ensure that all in positions of power and authority, whether in the state or elsewhere, behave accountably" has laid criminal charges against the Public Protector.
The group laid a case of perjury and defeating the ends of justice against Mkhwebane at Ocean View Police Station in Cape Town on Monday. The group also sent a letter of complaint to the Office of the Public Protector.
The group last month wrote to the Legal Practice Council demanding Mkhwebane be struck off the roll of advocates after the Constitutional Court found that Mkhwebane had been dishonest and acted in bad faith in her findings in the ABSA-Reserve Bank matter.
Paul Hoffman, SC said that it is up to the NPA to decide whether the charges are sufficient.
"She has politicised her office. Whether she likes it or not. She is seen as a tool of the Zuma faction in the ANC which is making life difficult for inter alia Pravin Gordhan and the President himself," Hoffman said.
