SACP members in Inchanga, west of Durban, have demanded to be given ANC membership.
At a packed Michael Gwala Hall yesterday, they told secretary-general Blade Nzimande they won’t vote for the ANC if their demand isn’t met.
Local SACP leader Nkosinathi Mkhize called on Nzimande to tell ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule and President Cyril Ramaphosa the party needed SACP votes.
Mkhize said they had been begging the ANC to give them membership.
“Our patience has run out. It’s now or never.
“If we aren’t given membership before the election, we won’t vote for the ANC.”
Nzimande was concerned about the failure to address the membership issue and said he would raise it with Magashule and Ramaphosa when he met them next week.
He said he heard provincial ANC leadership hated SACP members in Inchanga because they voted for an independent councillor in the 2016 local government election.
When he begged members to vote for the ANC in May, they howled “no!” at him.
He said the small parties formed after the Nasrec Conference were fronts for corrupt ANC leaders.
They wanted the party to get under 50% so as to go into coalitions with it and demand withdrawal of corruption cases against their leaders.
