RESIDENTS of extension 8 are gatvol of living with leaking sewage pipes.
According people from the kasi in Standerton, Mpumalanga, they don’t know what to do anymore.
Micky Ramaisa told Daily Sun they had been complaining about the issue since last year, but nothing happened.
“We’ve had protests and the mayor came here and promised to sort it out, but we’re still experiencing the same thing,” she said.
“Our houses smell like kak and our children are developing sores. It really pains us that after 25 years of democracy, there are people who are still treated like this.”
Micky said they were shocked when a municipal official told them the authorities also didn’t know what to do anymore.
“The mayor and the municipal officials are living in the suburbs. They don’t care about us,” she said.
Nomvula Buli (58) said they were being treated like animals.
“This is not nice at all. Our health is in danger and we’re living in hell,” she said.
Lekwa municipal spokeswoman Thobeka Mtshiselwa said fixing the issue would be a big project requiring large funds.
“From time to time, we use honeysucker drainage to deal with the problem, but we currently don’t have money for a permanent solution,” she said.
