Two police officers were arrested for the murder of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student Katlego Monareng.
Monareng was killed in August during a protest over the Student Representative Council elections.
At that time, the police had alleged that they fired warning shots into the crowd with R5 rifles.
They also alleged that nobody was injured, and that police cars were damaged.
In a statement, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) confirmed the arrests.
“The IPID has concluded its investigation,” IPID spokesman Moses Dlamini said.
“Only two technical reports are outstanding.”
The officers are set to appear at the Soshanguve Magistrate’s Court on 23 October, Dlamini said.
