A TRAIN which was derailed in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, left at least 19 people injured on Tuesday.

Netcare911 spokesman Shawn Herbst said the accident took place at Elandsfontein Station, off Jet Park Road.

He said paramedics found that three train carriages were derailed.

“All the injured were on the train and sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate.”

“Once treated and stabilised all patients were taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Daily Sun spoke to some commuters who said train services were poor and felt such incidents would continue to happen.

Lerato Mathibedi (45) said she has been using the train for 15 years and these accidents kept happening.She said she would use another form of transport if she had enough money.

“Prasa needs to take us seriously. We always complain about their terrible service, but it falls on deaf ears.”

Metrorail spokeswoman Lillian Mofokeng siad: “We are doing everything to recover the accident scene. There is movement of trains to and from Pretoria and Tembisa, but there are delays.”

“We appeal to commuters to be patient with us as we are doing everything possible to ensure we operate trains safely as they pass through the accident scene.”
