A TRAFFIC cop from Tokologo Municipality in the Free State was arrested on Tuesday.

The 43-year-old suspect based in Dealesville is in custody in Boshof after being bust for illegal possession of counterfeit money.

Police spokesman Captain Chaka Marope said: “The arrest comes after local business owners in Dealesville lodged several complaints with local cops that certain individuals were using R200 counterfeit notes to buy goods at their businesses.

“On Tuesday, cops got a tip-off about the incident and raided a house identified in Selosesha kasi, Dealesville.

“During the search, three R200 counterfeit notes were found. The house was identified as that of a local traffic officer.”

Marope said the suspect was nabbed while on duty in Boshof.

More counterfeit notes worth R2 000 were found in his possession.

He’s expected to appear at the Dealesville Magistrates Court on Wednesday on a charge of illegal possession of counterfeit notes.
