SIR Bubzin’s death has left family and friends heartbroken.
The producer, whose real name was Bongani Cele, died on Friday after spending a month in hospital with leukemia.
Best known for his catchy hit song Desha, featuring Big Nuz and DJ Tira, he worked with other artists in Durban including DJs C’ndo and Gukwa, as well as singer Joocy.
Daily Sun spoke to friends and colleagues. Kalawa Jazmee boss DJ Oskido, who discovered Bubzin (37), last saw the producer in hospital last Sunday.
“I didn’t know I was seeing him for the last time.”
They met years ago.
“Bubzin and his friends sent me a song,” he said.
“I listened to it and asked them to work for Kalawa.
“He then went back to Durban years later as his music career was growing. He’ll be missed.”
Musa Mavundla, known as Joocy, was introduced to Bubzin by DJ Tira and Big Nuz and was stunned by his talent.
“A hit track would be produced when there was Bubzin’s touch,’ said Joocy.
“He had amazing talent. His single Desha proved his hit-making skills.
“I worked with him on the song titled I Won’t Let You Go, which was a hit.”
Big Nuz member Danger said: “Good people are leaving us. We had plans with Bubzin, but he is gone now. He contributed a lot to my career as an artist. May his soul rest in peace.”
DJ Gukwa, who’d known Bubzin for 12 years, said: “I’d hoped he’d produce more hits for me. We had big plans for our careers. But he’s gone now. A great artist is gone.”
He’d just released the single Ululubuyile, featuring Bubzin and Emza.
