FAMILY, friends and former colleagues gathered to mourn musician Sir Javas yesterday.

Mourners from all over Tshwane came out in numbers to say goodbye to the popular DJ and producer at a memorial service in Mabopane unit D.

The DJ, whose real name was Njabulo Nxumalo, died last Wednesday after losing a battle with meningitis, an infection of the brain and spinal cord.

His sister Lungile described him as someone who was always in a good mood.

“We have to be happy as he was always cheerful,” she told mourners.

Sir Javas’ friend and colleague Titus Kota said the entertainment industry wasn’t good to some musicians.

“You have to die before people know you or play your songs on radio,” he said.

Precious Masimula of the Tshwane All Stars NGO said: “The last time I visited him in hospital, he kept asking what time and date it was. It was as if he knew he would leave us.”
