THE DA launched its election manifesto at Zalu Sports Ground in Lusikisiki, Eastern Cape on Saturday.
DA provincial leader Nqaba Bhanga told party members that they had the power to change their situation.
“I have been visiting rural areas not only because an election is looming, but because they want to hold government accountable.
“The ruling party wants you to believe you are still fighting racial segregation so you can turn a blind eye to corruption,” said Bhanga.
DA leader Mmusi Maimane said government was giving Eskom too much money.
“We must give other businesses a chance to distribute energy instead of relying on one company.
“The Eskom saga is crippling our economy and creating job losses,” said Maimane.
Maimane promised to clamp down on corruption and deal with the culprits.
“We will not be lenient on thieves by rewarding them with seats in parliament. We will send them to prison.”
He also promised better scholar transport in rural areas.
“Too many children are putting their lives in danger to get an education.”
