MARY MAKGATHO was buried in style in Soshanguve yesterday as hundreds of mourners gathered to say their final farewell.

Mary was well known for roles played in soapies including Rhythm City and Generations. She was also loved by kids for her part in Takalane Sesame, where she played Malimpho.

At the service many could not hold back their tears as each speaker spoke about her humble character.

“She had an amazing smile, the most joyous and brilliant of laughs that filled the room. Her personality spilled over into your spirit,” one speaker said.

Industry giants such as Motshabi Tyelele, Molefi Monaisa, Molobane Mbatha, Peter Mashigo and Boikie Pholo were among those who attended the funeral.

Family representative Lazarus Moloi said that they were proud of the person she was.

Tyelele said Mary was irreplaceable as she represented the voiceless women of the continent.

“She was respectful, humble and passionate and not arrogant at all,” she said.

Her close friend, Germinah Nkadimeng, shared a heartfelt tribute to Mary.

“It is so sad to lose one of my best friends and my children’s aunt. I am torn apart,” she said.

Mary was buried at Block VV Cemetery in Soshanguve. While her coffin was lowered into the grave, singer Solly Moholo and other music groups performed.

Mary was not married and she had no children. Her death sent shock waves across the country last Monday, with tributes and condolences flooding in from all sides of Mzansi.
