TWO taximen have been shot dead within a week.

The latest victim is Robertson Mfuphi (35). He was shot and killed by unknown suspects in Ivory Park ext 2 near Tembisa, Ekurhuleni on Saturday.

Police spokeswoman Captain Nelda Sekgobela said Mfuphi was driving with his friends in a white Toyota Hilux bakkie.

The suspects, who were travelling in a white Nissan NP 300 bakkie with an unknown registration number, cornered them and opened fire.

“Mfuphi managed to drive about 50 metres from where the shooting took place, but he lost control and crashed into a wall.

“Eleven spent cartridges were found on the scene,” said Sekgobela.

Mfuphi died on the scene.

Sekgobela said a murder case has been opened for investigation. She appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

On Wednesday, taxi boss Solomon Zulu (60) and vice-chairman of the Kempton Park Taxi Association was shot and killed in Ivory Park.

He was driving home in his Nissan Murano when he was ambushed. He died on the scene and the killers drove off.

The cops are still looking for them.

The shooting happened between Eliliba and Madelakufa sections in Tembisa.

“About 14 spent cartridges were found at the crime scene. Police are investigating a case of murder.

“Anyone who might have information is asked to call 08600 10111,” said Sekgobela.
