TSHWANE cops have arrested six suspects on charges of extortion, intimidation possession of illegal firearms.

One of the suspects was arrested at Silverlakes in Pretoria East and the other suspect in Bronkhorspruit.

The two were both arrested on charges of extortion and intimidation and they are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate Court on Monday.

Four more suspects were arrested in Midrand on possession of illegal firearms and contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulation Act.

The suspects are reportedly linked to a taxi boss that has allegedly been wreaking havoc in Mamelodi, he is accused of extorting and intimidating spaza shop owners and taxi drivers, and club owners in the community.

“The possibility of more arrests or even linkage of six suspects to other crimes cannot be ruled out as investigations are still underway,” Police spokesperson Brigadier Mathapelo Peters said.

Peters said the recovered firearms will also be put through ballistics to establish possible linkage to serious and violent crime.

Lieutenant General Mawela said: "Watch the Space!" in reassuring the residents of Mamelodi of bringing back stability in the area after the public outcry.
