TWO special needs pupils are flying the Western Cape flag high.

The pupils from Lathi-tha School of Skills took part in the Learners With Special Educational Needs competition at Dal Josaphat Athletics Stadium in Paarl on 6 March.

They competed in long distance running.

The pupils will travel to Port Elizabeth in Eastern Cape tomorrow, where they will represent their province.

Lathi-tha sports co-ordinator Thulani Mphahlwa said the school was proud of their pupils’ achievements.

“This is an achievement because most people forget about pupils at special schools,” said Thulani.

“We provide them with opportunities so they can show their talent.

“We want them to know that we don’t undermine them just because they are at a special school.”

Lwando Qomiyane (18) said this would be the first time he’d travelled out of the province.

“I’m happy to be representing my province. I know that I’m not going on holiday, but to work hard so that I can get a chance to visit other places,” said Lwando.
