SPAZA shops have left communities divided.
Some residents are begging spaza shop owners to re-open, while others say they must voetsek.
This after the Sun Team went on the field to talk to shop owners who have re-opened their shops, the reason was simple: “They begged us to re-open, gogo’s can’t go far just to buy headache tablets and bread,” said an owner who operates in Snake Park, Soweto.
The shop owner told Daily Sun that even though they were living in daily fear, a majority of their customers needed them.
“Gogo’s complained and came to us telling us not to be afraid but to continue rendering a good service and being one with the community.
I agree that some of the food that was in my shop had expired but it has since been removed from the shop and we will be re-stocking fresh food,” said the shop owner.
When the Sun Team spoke to the youth in White City, some admitted to be part of the looting because they wanted foreign nationals out of the country.
The man said this was because the foreign national shop owners, just came here to take money to their country and not even create a single job.
