A Grade 5 pupil couldn’t pee for three days as his urinary hole was stitched.
The 11-year-old was circumcised on 16 February at Letlhabile Clinic near Brits, North West, after kids got forms bearing the name of JPS Africa, an NGO that does circumcisions.
But the boy was left with stitches through the head of his 4-5.
The boy’s mother (31) said they took the child back to the clinic but were sent home and told to remove the bandages.
“A sister phoned and told them to bring him back. She gave him some painkillers after taking pictures of his penis with her cellphone. She said the boy would be fine,” said the mother.
But he didn’t stop crying and they took him to Brits Hospital, where nurses said whoever caused the injury must deal with it.
The boy was helped at Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital in Ga-Rankuwa, Tshwane.
Pipes were used to help him pee and he filled two, two-litre bottles with urine,” said the mum.
The boy was not admitted.
The nurse from Letlhabile apparently made many visits but said the child was just a crybaby.
She eventually contacted a doctor from Rustenburg after admitting she had performed the circumcision herself.
The North West Department of Education said the NGO did not go through the school, but the mum said the school gave them the forms to sign.
Health spokesman Tebogo Lekgethwane said a health team visited the family on 23 February.
“The wound is healing well. The team left after the child passed urine,” he said.
