Radio and TV personality Sizwe Dhlomo was apparently not happy with the tweets Helen Zille made a year ago about colonialism.
So on Monday, Sizwe took to Twitter and engaged the Western Cape Premier on the topic.
It turned out to be a heated debate.
In a thread that saw more than 20 tweets exchanged between the two, Sizwe Dhlomo shared his views on colonialism with Zille.
“You, like it or not are a beneficiary of Colonialism albeit indirectly. Your biases, whether you’re aware of them or not, make it unlikely for you to be able to accurately weigh up the negatives of colonialism versus these positives you speak of,” read one of Sizwe’s tweets.
Zille’s argument was based on her belief that the legacy of colonialism was not entirely negative.
“Historical events can be inherently evil, but aspects of their legacy can turn out to be positive, although the positive does NOT cancel out the negative,” she responded to Sizwe.
That is when things became heated.
Soon, other twitter users joined in the ongoing debate and added their opinions.
