Nomthandazo Mbatha was allegedly killed by a school friend.

THE Mbatha family in Ncakeni, Mpumalanga is still struggling to come to terms with the loss of their daughter.

Nomthandazo Mbatha (16) was allegedly killed by a fellow pupil on Monday 8 April.

Apparently Nomthandazo left for a study session and never returned home.

The following day, her parents learned that she was last seen with a 17-year-old pupil after the study session that day.

Her body was later discovered buried in a shallow grave.

Nomthandazo’s mother, Anna Mabote, said she is shattered.

“I am still asking myself questions that I cannot answer,” she said.

The 39-year-old mum said she had been looking forward to her daughter’s future.

Mpumalanga Education MEC Sibusiso Malaza visited the school and the family last Friday to discuss the young girl’s burial.

He said society needs to work to educate the boy child.

Police spokesman Brigadier Leonard Hlathi said they were investigating charges of murder, rape and defeating the ends of justice.
