THIS is a school for children with
special needs. They are supposed to receive proper care and attention in a clean environment.
But teachers and parents at KwaThema Skills School in Ekurhuleni are crying foul.
They claim their principal turned the reception area of the school into a toolshed and parking lot for lawnmowers!
They said parents, pupils and other visitors to the school are greeted by the smell of diesel and grass and that they fear their kids could be exposed to toxic chemicals.
The teachers and parents said it was obvious the principal couldn’t care less about the vulnerable pupils or his teaching staff.
One of the teachers told Daily Sun they had warned the principal about his move but he ignored them.
“This is not healthy for us or the children but the principal doesn’t care,” claimed the teacher.
The school has close to 450 kids who all have to use the reception area to reach the teachers’ rooms.
The teachers said all 56 teachers at the school were against the decision.
Education Department spokesman Steve Mabona said: “According to information at our disposal the equipment is stored in the office for safety reasons.”
