SANGOMA STAYS BEHIND BARS

accreditation

A SANGOMA accused of beheading a school girl was denied bail yesterday.

Olwethu Mbalwa (30) appeared in the Mbizana Magistrates Court for allegedly killing Sinoyolo Mgaga (17) from Nikhwe Village in Bizana in October.

Last month, Mbalwa claimed the girl’s aunt was involved in the crime.

Hawks investigating officer Sergeant Tandokazi Jojo-Gwazela said Mbalwa had told a cop the aunt had approached him, asking about ways to make money.

“The aunt allegedly said she was tired of being poor and needed a plan. The accused invited the aunt to his practice and advised her on what to do,” she claimed.

In her testimony, Jojo-Gwazela said the aunt had phoned Mbalwa on the night of the murder to say the girl would be alone.

The family had previously suspected the aunt’s involvement.

Jojo-Gwazela said cops didn’t have evidence linking the aunt to the murder.

The court also heard the accused used Sinoyolo’s cellphone to call his girlfriend.

Mbalwa’s defence argued he should be given bail as he would serve time if found guilty.

But magistrate Nombuso Nqwenani said he could not be released as he had previous convictions and no ID or passport. The case was postponed to next month.
