CITY of Joburg officials have denied claims that Alex Renewal Project documents were among those stolen.
Papers were taken during a robbery at chief whip Kevin Wax’s offices in Braamfontein on Saturday morning.
Wax denied that files relating to the R1,3 billion project were stolen.
City spokesman Lucky Sindane said the suspect was seen leaving with a bag and documents but wouldn’t say what documents were stored in the offices.
“It’s puzzling how the suspect made it to the office. The building was wellguarded.”
“This is not the first time someone stole documents. We’ve had someone go into offices and leave with Alex Renewal Project-related documents.
“A government official stole and returned files over the investigation into the project.”
Sindane said guards would be questioned about how the intruder made it that far.
“There’s no forced entry through other doors.”
He said the stakeholder management group forensic and investigation services were working on getting all papers related to the project and securing them.
A R25 000 reward has been offered for information that could help arrest the person identified on the CCTV footage. Metro police’s Wayne Minnaar said: “CCTV footage showed the suspect clearly and the matter is being investigated.”
