THE horror of finding a little girl raped and murdered sparked fires of fury on Tuesday evening.
And soon a house in Mahushu near Hazyview, Mpumalanga where the murder suspect was allegedly often seen went up in flames.
As the fire lit up the night, angry residents bayed for the blood of the owner of the house and that of the suspect.
All hell broke loose after Nokubonga Nonyane’s body was found at Numbi. The eight-year-old went missing on Friday. She was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered.
When Nokubonga’s family went to search for her at the suspect’s home, the owner of the house told them she was not related to the suspect. She claimed the man was just a tenant.
This angered residents. They accused the woman of shielding the suspect, whom they believe is her son. Ward 3 committee member Veronica Mdluli said a meeting was held on Tuesday night.
“We agreed to let the police handle the matter,” she said.
“Unfortunately angry residents decided to torch the house.”
One of the residents told Daily Sun: “We will hunt him down and when we find him, we will deal with him. The law must give us space so that we can do what we need to do.”
Police spokesman Sergeant Gerald Sedibe urged parents or guardians to take precautions and take care of their children.
“A murder case has been opened. No one has been arrested yet,” he said.
