GOSPEL artist Sabata Masoka had lost everything, including the will to live.
The former Joyous Celebration star’s music wasn’t doing well and he had lost hope in his life and career.
Sabata had turned to drugs and alcohol.
But two years ago his life took a turn for the better when gospel star Rebecca Malope came to his rescue.
“I was an alcoholic. If it wasn’t for Rebecca, I would be living in the streets,” Sabata said.
“I was down and out when Rebecca revived my music career.”
He said Rebecca took him under her wing and spent time rehabilitating him and always reminded him about his great talent.
Sabata, originally from Mbizana in the Eastern Cape, said he sometimes missed gigs.
“I always had ridiculous excuses. I became bankrupt as there was no money coming in,” he told Daily Sun.
“God was testing my life to be a testimony to others.”
In June Sabata released his 18-track album, Restored.
Rebecca said: “I counselled him and told him how talented he was.
“I’m happy that I was there to help a fellow brother in need,” said the gospel sensation.
Sabata teaches young gospel artists in various churches to be better singers, have courage, and believe in themselves.
He will celebrate 21 years in the music industry with a nationwide tour next year.
He will jet off to the US in March.
