Johannesburg - SBV Protection Services has posted a R1 million reward for information regarding a cash-in-transit heist near Hazyview, in Mpumalanga, on Tuesday.

All four guards were injured while trying to fight off their attackers, SBV managing director Mark Barrett said. The company was offering the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects. He said they were working with authorities to catch them.

The guards were transporting money to Ximhungwe Spar when a grey Mercedes E-Class crashed into them and forced them to a stop between Cunningmoore and Mkhuhlu around 09:00 on Tuesday, police spokesperson Captain Phillip Sakude said.

They blew open the cash van's roof and shot and injured three of the guards.

One is in a critical condition. The fourth was treated for teargas inhalation.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed sum of money.

“We will not tolerate any criminal activities that compromise the safety of our employees,” Barrett said.

Anyone with information about the crime could call the SBV early warning robbery hotline 24/7 on 083 408 7029.
