MPUMALANGA Premier Refilwe Mtshweni announced during a visit to the Witbank General Hospital plans to build a tertiary hospital in Emalahleni.
She said the dilapidated hospital’s building facilities required major renovations.
“There are massive leaks in the roof because it is damaged and rusted,” she said.
“We can’t continue to subject our people to such conditions. We can’t accept things as they are.
“Let’s construct a new proper tertiary hospital here in Witbank. The current Witbank Hospital must revert to being a district hospital, and Impungwe District Hospital should be converted into a psychiatric hospital.
“Witbank TB Hospital should continue to operate as a centre for the treatment of tuberculosis and related diseases. We need to turn around the situation.” she said.
